Health Ministries

We promote a variety of different issues, these include; Healthy Eating, Healthy Weight, Breathe Free (to help stop smoking), Heart Health, Sexual Health, and Drug Awareness. In promoting these different topics, we try and educate at the same time, for example, making known how the body works.

We believe that whatever we do, whether it be eating, drinking or exercising, we are doing it to the glory of God.

An important part of Health Ministries is 'Prevention'. Early detection, screening and preventative interventions are promoted to help people protect against problems.
Elsie sometimes works as a resource for others, assisting members to help complete the task that God has given. She keeps updated on policies and targets, ensuring that the department uses the latest resources.

Some training that we provide are as follows;

First Aid:
Sunday 1 November 2009

Continuous Training:
Breathe Free (helping to stop smoking)
Coronary Health Improvement Project (CHIP)

Elsie

Why did you decide to start working for the church?
I feel I was called by God to work for the Church. I was originally working towards a secular career and was gaining talents I knew I could use for God. After this realisation, I started work for the SEC, working in both the Health and Community Ministries departments.

What would you say are the challenges of your job?
I think that communication is a challenge of my role. As I'm based at the Advent Centre, it is difficult to keep up to date with everything that is emerging at the SEC.

What are the highlights of your time as director of this Department?
I love sharing and helping to educate people, especially about the marvellous things that God has given us. We all have the same needs, it's just that some needs are more prominent at different times, and hopefully my ministry will care for people in many different ways.
